Rumours have long existed that piercing of nipples cause breast cancer, however no scientific link has been established between the two.
That said, it should be noted that if piercing is not done by professionals there can be several problems like infections, damage (sometimes permanent) to duct leading to problems in breast feeding, etc.

Occurrence of breast cancer, or any other condition for that part, is extremely hard to trace back to one single factor, often there are several factors at work in each case. Deodorants / antiperspirants have long been rumoured to cause cancer of the breast but there have been no studies so far which have either proved or disproved this.

There are some factors that are associated with placing a woman more or less at risk. These factors might include increasing age, a family history of breast cancer, age at birth of first child, say , well into her thirties, never given birth, early menstrual period, late menopause, high- fat diet, obesity, high alcohol consumption, or a high dose of radiation to the chest.
