Nipple piercing and breast cancer

January 28th, 2007 by Shikha

Rumours have long existed that piercing of nipples cause breast cancer, however no scientific link has been established between the two.

That said, it should be noted that if piercing is not done by professionals there can be several problems like infections, damage (sometimes permanent) to duct leading to problems in breast feeding, etc.

Some of the symptoms of breast infections caused by piercing are redness, swelling, their breast feeling hot to the touch, nipple drainage, even fever in some cases. They do require medicinal attention but are not symptoms of breast cancer.

    Hello Laura,
Marks of breasts could be symptoms of fungal infection or they could be normal stretch marks often observed in initial breast development stages of young girls.
That said, sometimes infection symptoms are confused with IBC (Inflammatory Breast Cancer).
I advice that you visit a doctor soon and get the marks examined
